Who we are, why we exist, and what we are building in Putnam County.
Our Mission
The mission of the Putnam County Young Democrats is to build durable Democratic leadership in Putnam County through civic engagement, member training, voter outreach, and service within the local party structure.
PCYD exists to identify local talent, prepare members for responsibility, and create an organized pathway from first-time participation to sustained political and civic leadership.
Our Community
Putnam County is river towns, small farms, and neighborhoods that have looked out for each other for generations. We're proud to call it home. We're also honest that it isn't an easy place to get by: median household income sits around $47,900, and roughly one in five residents live below the poverty line, numbers that shape daily life for a lot of the families PCYD wants to serve.
PCYD exists because of that reality, not around it. We're building a practical way for young people and working families to get involved in Democratic politics close to home, from knocking doors to filling precinct seats, so the people most affected by these challenges have a real voice in solving them.
Membership
Official members must be Putnam County Residents aged 18 - 40 or students 14 - 18 with parent or guardian permission. Over 40? No problem! We welcome you as a supporting member, event volunteer, or an operational supporter.
Founding Member
A qualifying participant who signs the charter packet or other founding documents as required.
General Member
A participant within the youth eligibility range recognized by FYD public guidance and by local organizing rules adopted by PCYD.
Supporter
A person outside the youth eligibility range, or not yet eligible for a formal member vote, who supports events, outreach, or operations.
Formal voting rights, officer eligibility, and any membership classes adopted for charter purposes will be set by the founding meeting, charter requirements, and adopted bylaws.
